Job Opportunity

Learning Community Facilitator

Here at Kith, we are moving into a new phase as our wonderful founders, Lorna and Simon, move on to new adventures. Ben (that’s me) is taking over as Lead facilitator, which means we’re looking for a new facilitator for our Learning Community.

We are exceptionally lucky at Kith to have a beautiful space on the hillside with woods, a huge field, two gardens, both a lawn and a swamp for play, and a yurt to keep cosy. We now have a Homestead Manager who is looking after (and upgrading) the site for us, while we continue to run every week powered by our unique curriculum.

Based on five pillars - Community, Earth Connection, Creativity, Homestead Skills and Spirit - this is child-led, nature-based learning with lots of play, creation, immersion in our natural environment and skills like campfire cooking, gardening and DIY. We are dedicated to the autonomy of our young people and believe that they are the best guides for their own learning. That means that every day looks different and if you’re not put off by occasional bad weather, we always have fun!

We’re looking for a facilitator who’s interested in the kinds of learning we do, preferably with some kind of experience but if you’re enthusiastic about developing these skills please also get in touch! You would not be expected to lead any aspects of the day initially but hopefully once you’re settled in you can start to bring offerings with whatever support you need.

There is also an invitation to bring ideas for the future. For example, if you have a desire to set up extra sessions for different groups on different days, that would be really exciting.

Our Learning Community runs on Mondays and Tuesdays, for ages 8+. It’s not a setting that specifically caters to additional needs, although we aspire to include everyone we can. We run all year round, including school holidays. We tend to have breaks in May, September and over December/January. We also run camps during school holidays to invite children from mainstream schools to experience what we do, so that would be an extra day or two per week during holidays.

Hours: 9:30-4:30 Mondays and Tuesdays
Pay: £100 per day, self-employed
Start date: March

Location: North Rigton, Harrogate

I hope this is a good outline for anyone interested, but please check out our Learning Community page, our Facebook and Instagram for some more insight into what we do. And please get in touch with any questions.

If you wish to apply, please send a covering letter and either a CV or a summary of your experience to benjackson3231@googlemail.com

And please pass this on to anyone who you think might be interested.
