Hand Rolled Beeswax Candles

I must be going through a “keep it simple” phase right now. These don’t get much easier. The tricky bit might be finding the wax sheets which are most eco-friendly in your area. There are plenty of online companies which do the beeswax sheets so do have a search around for ones which fit your budget and area. The smell of these is so wholesome, an earthy sticky smell which is honey warm. From the rolling to the using, these candles will absolutely keep you feeling cosy throughout the darker months.

Materials Needed:

  • Sheets of flat beeswax

  • Cotton for a wick

  • Scissors

  • A heat source, we used the wood burner in the yurt. A stove top, a hairdryer or a warm cup of tea all work really well too.

Assemble all your bits and bobs before you get started. Once you’re in the flow, these don’t take much time to make at all.

Be sure to get your fire/hot tea/hair dryer ready before trying to roll the wax. If it’s cold, it’s very likely to snap or break and that’s a real pain.

Lay out your wick against the side you’re wanting to roll. This will be the eventual height of your candle. Cut the wick to size, leaving a short length above the top of the beeswax.

Warm your beeswax sheet a little using your heat source. It will melt really quickly so only warm it until it feels slightly sticky and beginning to bend.

Trap the wick onto the sheet and begin rolling your sheet around it.

Note: If your sheet feels like it might crack, hold it back under/near the heat for a few seconds more.

Roll it up!

Gently squeeze the end of the sheet around the rolled candle shape to finish. It should be flush against the rest of the candle.

And you’re done! Super simple.
